General Introduction
In May 2009, Jiangxi Normal University elementary education college was established to cater to the new trend of faculty training development. The college aims at cultivating “T shape and four specialties” elementary school teachers, which specialize in moral development、professional knowledge、professional skills and research. The goal of the college is to develop high quality faculty who have high moral standard、advanced teaching concept、solid professional knowledge、proficient skills、innovative spirit and good practical abilities. The college tries to lay a solid foundation for future elementary teaching experts who are compound talents with specialties and are capable of teaching Chinese、math and English in elementary school with relevant teaching management work. Meanwhile, the college strives to train high quality professional talents of educational institutions at all levels. The college awards Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree and sets elementary education major which is divided into Chinese、math and English branches. The study involves four-year schooling. The master degree includes Elementary Education Academic Degree and Primary School Education Professional Master Degree (full time Master and part time Master). At present, there are 900 undergraduates and 41 masters.
The college has 27 teachers including 2 professors、9 associate professors、13 doctors and 6 doctor candidates. There is one State Department Special Allowance Expert with the title of National Excellent Master Tutor、excellent social science expert of Jiangxi province、candidate for leading Jiangxi 555 Talent Training Project and Young and Middle-aged University Academic Leader in Jiangxi province. One teacher was awarded Top Ten teachers of Jiangxi Normal University and three teachers were given the title Top One Hundred Teachers. A large amount of famous scholars and teachers are working here .
Elementary Education college of Jiangxi Normal University possesses many distinguishing teaching practice bases in different primary schools and Education subject has the leading and key constructing disciplines as well as the abundant teaching resources、academic ability and geographic advantage. The college emphasizes the construction of discipline、major and faculty. Since establishment, the college has received more than 30 provincial subjects、one national subject and four subjects of the Ministry of Education. Ten scholarly treatise or teaching materials were published by Higher Education Press and Chinese Society Press. More than 50 articles were published in SCI、EI journals and Journal of Educational Research. The college has got one third prize of National Education Excellence Award、three second prize and one third prize of Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Award.
The focus of the college is to carry out the student-centered classroom teaching mode and improve the education quality of nurturing innovative intellects. For years, the fame of the college has constantly improved. In 2017, according to the information from Chinese university undergraduate course ranking list on Chinese science and education evaluation network, the elementary education major of our college ranked fifteenth among all 205 Chinese universities, proving that the intellectual nurturing mode gains the recognition from the society. The graduates’ employment rate accounts for more than 92 percent, ranking the first phalanx of the university’s employment. The average scores of admission to our college in College Entrance Examination are 37 points higher than score standards for art students while 40 points higher for science students.
The comprehensive development of students has been emphasized. Based on the building of college’s Communist Youth League and Student Groups, the college strives to provide growing-up platform for students and enrich campus activities to enhance student’s thinking ability and cultural qualities as well as physical fitness. Annual professional teaching skill contest entitled “I can, I win” will stimulate students to learn better and teachers to teach with passion. The Youth Marxist Nurturing Project encourages students to pay close attention to the country and society so as to have right world view、outlook on life and value. The college cooperating with Youth Volunteers Service Group has received the National Youth Volunteer Service Award. The college has been granted Provincial Excellent Youth Volunteer Service Award by carrying out taking care of urban migrant children project. The social practice group has received many provincial awards for students’ effort of spreading knowledge and offering services to the countryside during Summer Vacation. CPC committee of the college has been given the title “Advanced Primary Party Organization”. The college has been granted “Advanced Unit for Serving Students” and “Advanced Unit for Students’ Employment” many times.
The college emphasizes training international talents. For years, the college has carried out a series of reform measures on various aspects including strengthening teaching staff、constructing curriculum system、innovating teaching content and teaching method、intensifying the communication and exchange between teachers and international cooperation to nurture talents. The platform in line with international development makes students possess international perspectives and improves their international competitive abilities.
